| We Got
The Heck Out of Dodge! Why would anyone select that as the
city's motto? Well, actually it is "Get Out of Dodge" but my
question still pertains.
Our motel, America's Best Value Inn's had a very meager breakfast
offering. We chose to avoid it and headed out for a real
breakfast. Found a pancake house on the east side of town and
enjoyed a good breakfast then headed on our way.
It was Highway-400 all the way to Wichita. For the most part,
it is the standard two lane byway. The mostly hay silage fields
gave way to a predominance of wheat with a smattering of corn field just
starting out about 1-2 feet high. And, of course, some cattle..
The feed lots tended to be smaller in this part of Kansas and
consequently somewhat less odiferous, thankfully.
There were quite a few small towns along the way and a few with some
size. Greensburg in the county of Kiowa was all but wiped out inn
2007 when a tornado over a mile wide roared through. It was wider
than the town itself. Much of the town has made a remarkable
recovery. |

As the afternoon went on, the eastern horizon got more and more ominous |

There were several flashes of cloud to ground lightning we spotted ahead |

We poor shmucks from California do not know what to think of this kind
of weather |

We played a little pool. I was having withdrawal symptoms from the
