Ride to Knights Landing, January 24, 2015
In any case, not suspecting the weather lie, I decided it would be a fun thing to take a
long-ish ride up to
Knights Landing a small town just east of where I-5 meets the terminus of
I-505
I have been there before, 9 years ago, and it seemed like a good time to visit again.
Along the way, I picked up a few other letters and points.
Heading north o I-680, my first stop was at
Contra Costa
County Animal Services
So I could take a photo for a "C" county. Nearby is a model train store
Just Trains so
I poked my head in and browsed a bit.
My next stop was in
Cordelia for gas then on to
Iron Steed Harley-Davidson in
Vacaville.
On the way, a photo of a Vacaville post office.
For an ABC point, I need to get a photo of the HD dealer
name. Iron Steed makes it kind of tough.
Most dealers have their name in big signs. Maybe this one is not all that
proud.
I went inside and tried to buy a t-shirt but having picked one out, no body
would wait on me so I left.
Next stop was the tiny town of
Zamora for a "Z"
It lies just south of where I-505 joins I-5
They have a nice little
Post Office, a fire station, and a town hall
From Zamora, it is just about 11 miles east to
Knights Landing likewise with a small
Post Office
From there, I headed just about directly south to
Yolo for another
Post Office
While there, a lady drove up and saw me with the camera.
She asked if I was to prove that I had been to Yolo.
I said yes, and she asked if it was for the letter of the alphabet.
Exactly.
Next I headed to
Woodland, seat of
Yolo County
I found a good place for a convenient photo at the
Yolo County Fairgrounds
Then over to the
Woodland Police Department for a "W" photo
I already had a "W" photo for
Woodside Fire Station 8, but technically it is in the town of
Portola Valley
It is already past 4:30 and is really cold. So I headed home hoping to get
there before sunset.
In reality, I knew that sunset was about 5:30 this time of year and I still have
well over 100 miles, sigh.
Where Highway 4 and I-680 meet, there is the little town of
Pacheco
And in Pacheco is the
McGuire Harley-Davidson Dealer
They moved there from Walnut Creek and prior to that from San Ramon.
This is by far their best location.
I stopped in to warm up and buy a t-shirt and to admire the Harley "Limited"
motorcycle.
I had a very nice conversation with a nice sales guy, Owen
Notice that they do proudly proclaim their name on their store.
Notice also the shadows getting very long. The sun would be going down
soon.
Then finally the long, cold trek home. arriving just
about 6:00.
Warmth finally got back into my extremities after a nice, warm shower.
Later, my sister noted that it was warm here in San Jose. Maybe I should
have headed south instead.
But it was a good day and I'm happy.
