2012 Trip Across America
Photos and Notes from Day 11, Wednesday, May 30
|

Previous Day |
| From
Holbrook, AZ to Albuquerque, NM Today was a rather straight
forward path. All on I-40, a bit over 230 miles. The
challenge was that the bike is still restricted to going no faster than
55 MPH. Not a mean trick on a 75 MPH freeway. Cars and
trucks bunching up behind and maneuvering to try to pass.
This stretch is characterized by long stretches of nothing at all.
The landscape is beautiful, but there is so much of it. The
differences along the way are more subtle than striking.
Traveling at 55 takes a little less than two hours to travel 100
miles. At the speed limit of 75, it takes one hour and 20 minutes.
Quite a difference. Another way of looking at it, when the 75
traveler reaches the end, the 55 fellow still has about 35 miles to go. |

Stopped at the Petrified Forest National Park for a photo. |

Entering the Navajo Nation |

Everywhere, people were hawking "genuine" Indian wares. |

After a long time, we finally hit the New Mexico border. Then an
even longer time to Albuquerque. |

Along side of I-40 runs the main railroad lines. This is a
passenger train of some sort. |

How boring was it?
Cows caught this photographer's attention. |
