Photos and Descriptions
First thing in the morning we went to the
Harley-Davidson Kansas City Plant. They make Sportsters, Dynas,
and V-Rods here. We went on the factory tour and tithed in the
gift shop. They did not take us throught the Sportster or Dyna
lines because they are already making the 2011 models and they did not
want us divulging any secrets. In the parking lot were areas
specifically for motorcycles. Of course those were up front
closest to the factory. I wonder how the fellow who rode in on the
orange scooter had the nerve.
From Kansas City, it is a short 70 miles to
Topeka the Kansas State
Capital.
RM & K were anxious to get to Denver to visit some long-term, really
good friends so they went on ahead while C & I dawdled our way through
Kansas.
C and I were heading west on I-70 in the middle of Kansas. We
spotted a number of billboards advertising a
Wamego Oz Museum.
What can be better than to see Dorothy and Toto in the heart of Kansas?
When we got off at the exit, the sign says Wamego 10 miles. I'm
thinking "Gee, ten miles there and ten miles back, what a bother, but
what the heck."
So I continue on a beautiful country road. The corn is still young.
We found a delightful little town,
Wamego, with a fun museum dedicated
to the Wizard, a fun wine tasting room (wine in Kasas?), and a neat
Dutch windmill in the city park.
We ended the day in
Salina, Kansas.
The motel clerk at the motel recommended an Italian restaurant in town,
Martinellis Little Italy
We tried it and it turned out to be very, very good.
