2012 Trip Across America

Photos and Notes from Day 6, Friday, May 25

The Grand Canyon Railroad and Park

Today we awoke in Williams, AZ and headed over to the Grand Canyon Railroad.
We had tickets to ride, first class no less, to the Grand Canyon National Park and back.

The experience started with a play by the same local acting troupe that put on the street show last evening.  It was equally funny, equally clever, and equally fun.  We then boarded the train and started the unhurried ride the 65 miles to the park.  On board, there were comfortable seats, refreshments, and great entertainment by a native American singing in the Hopi language.

The Grand Canyon, of course, is truly breathtaking.  We were able to hike around and enjoy ourselves for about three hours.

The train ride back was great.  At one point, the train stopped and some train robbers forced their way aboard.  They roamed through the cars and robbed us of valuables (tips and donations).  And again, a live singer this time country songs.

A single locomotive took us up to the park

There was quite a string of cars.  This is the back half of the consist.

An band of outlaws came through the cars and robbing the passengers.  He stole two dollars from me..

Then the marshal went chasing through after the train robbers.  He asked us

A live singer entertained us with a little Frankie Lane, a little Johny Cash, and closed with Happy Trails by Dale Evans
