We got to the airplane on time. Thanks, Melanie, for the ride
to the airport. The security line was long but moved fast.
The first flight was on schedule. The airplane was so small
that it had two seats on one side and one on the other. The second
flight too was right on schedule and went very smoothly.
When we got to Atlanta, the flight board said this flight was
going to be on time. We had about an hour to wait. When
we looked again, it said it would be about two hours late. We
checked in at the gate and they confirmed the delay. Taking
advantage of the time, Carol and I wandered over to a restaurant and
had a nice dinner. On returning toward the gate, we checked
the flight status and it said "Departed". Of course, we kind
of panicked. There are not that many flights from Atlanta to
Akron in a day. The other members of our group were on a
flight that was scheduled two hours after ours and an alternative
plan started to form to see if there was room on that flight.
But what then of our luggage? We got to our original gate,
they said that the flight board was wrong -- a computer glitch --
and that our plane was indeed late. Once it left, two and a
half hours late, the flight was very smooth even though at times
there was lightning on both sides. We landed and walked to the
baggage area and who was there? Rhonda, Garron, Ross, Randy,
and James. Their flight had arrived about ten minutes earlier.
We all shared the hotel shuttle and got safely to bed for the night.
It became daylight at a little after six EDT. Time zones are
not always our friends. |
