Southeast States Trip Day 4 Thursday May 28, 2015

Today is between Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA
A short day with time to explore

Places Visited Along The Way, Photos, and Notes
The purpose of this motorcycle trip is the ride.
I enjoy spending time on the road and discovering new places and things.
This is different from most tourism where the destination is the goal.

With this in mind, I decided I did not have time to explore Charleston, SC
and Savannah both.  I will have to come back some time to do Charleston right.

Hotel: Best Western Patriots Point Had a good breakfast, got off to an early start.
The road through the Carolina low country is beautiful
The weather cooperated wonderfully

Today was a short day and was very much needed.  Yesterday I was exhausted by evening.
I am now on east coast time - finally - and feeling good
Did not make too many stops along the way, just enjoyed the ride
Did stop once for the Carolina Cherry Company
They sell all sorts of ciders and jams
Reflections on a solo trip:
For the past few years, I have had a travel partner who helped greatly with the photography.
This trip I am solo and must take the photos myself.
A result is that I can only take photos when the road is straight,
traffic is light, the bike is on cruise control, and the photos are limited to straight ahead.

On the other hand, I am amazed with how much room there is in the saddlebags.
I have packed for several days on the road and still have plenty of room for
dealership t-shirts and paraphernalia.

Sometimes fumbling with the camera can yield unexpected results.
An unintended self portrait.
I arrived in Savannah, Georgia a bit past noon and checked into the hotel.
Comfort Suites Historic District 630 W. Bay Street
Old, circa 1960's but reasonably well kept and extremely well located
Looking from the hotel, I am on the edge of the historic river front district

Bay Street is one block from River Street which runs along the banks of the Savannah River.

Bay Street is 40-50 feet higher than River Street.  There are steep stone steps to get partway down.
Everything in this area seems to be made of brick or stone or a combination including the streets.

The Savannah River is navigable by ocean vessels and is very active

You can see the beautiful bridge I passed over to get here.
Without a passenger photographer, I am missing a lot of fabulous shots when crossing bridges.

The following are photos along River Street which is a bit shy of a mile long

When I first got down to River Street there were a couple fellow with Harley-Davidson t-shirts
One was from the Florida Keys so I asked if they were up from Florida
Turns out there were three with whom I spoke for quite some time
They are from Fayetteville, NC and we spoke of times gone by up there
Meet Jess, Terry, and Alfred.  They are riding with a group from their church.
