Southeast States Trip Day 5 Friday May 29, 2015

Today is Savannah, GA to Live Oak, FL
A longer day than planned

Places Visited Along The Way, Photos, and Notes
On leaving Savannah, Georgia I stopped at  post office and mailed
the first bunch of t-shirts and stuff home.

Savannah Harley-Davidson #6 Gateway Boulevard West
Open 9:00 Mon-Sat 12:00 Sun, I-95 exit 94
Brunswick, Glynn County, GA

Golden Isles Harley-Davidson 153 Venture Drive
Open 9:00 Mon-Sat 12:00 Sun, I-95 exit 38
On entering Florida, there was a rest stop for a state photo
Jacksonville, Duval County, FL is built on the crux of all sorts of rivers
lakes, bayous, swamps, and just plain water.
As a result, there are tons of bridges in a tangle that no human can comprehend.
I missed a turnoff at one point and I had to cross a long, high bridge
then doubled around and had to cross another bridge to get to my destination.
All within the city's downtown

Duval County Clerk of Courts 330 East Bay St good for my "D" county letter

Adamec Harley-Davidson at Regency  10399 Atlantic Blvd
Open Tues-Fri 9-7, Sat 9-6, Closed Sun-Mon

Parked in front is a chuck truck.  The people inside the HD dealer recommended it
I had a quesadilla which had pulled port, barbeque sauce, cheese, bits of pineapple
Sounds weird, but tasted good.  Really gooey
Well, the best laid plans of mice and Harley riders...

On the way to Jacksonville there were few places that I wanted to stop.
In addition, it was all on I-95 so the going was fairly fast.

It was too early to stop for the day and I wanted to gain a few miles on the plan
so I would have more options in the days to come.

So I pressed on a bit.
These photos show the highway in Georgia, Florida and again Florida
The middle is northern Florida, more deciduous vegetation

The right photo shows that the landscape has subtly changed in the pan handle of Florida.
The highway is still tree lined, but as you look more closely,
everything off the sides of the road is in standing water.
At  times one can imagine an alligator beside the road watching
At a rest stop on I-10 there is a sign for the Oscola National Forest.
I get a point for up to five national forests
I stopped for the night in Live Oak, FL
The plan for the day was 154 miles, actual was 235 miles.

I stayed at the Quality Inn Live Oak 6819 US 129

Across the road is a Walmart Supercenter to which I walked
and was able to get some fresh fruit.

Next to the motel is a restaurant with the sign:

Curious, I tried it.  Just what it says.  A large buffet with
chow mein, fried catfish, general tao's chicken, mac and cheese, spring rolls, canned corn,
sweet and sour chicken, grits, broccoli beef, hush puppies,
you get the idea.  Eclectic, but fun.

Oh and by the way, I have visited my hoped for four states on this trip.
My current motorcycled-in states count has reached 47, only 3 more to go.
Michigan is top on my list.  Stay tuned for my next trip.
