Comfort Inn - Canton
is not a particularly good motel, but any port in a storm. It sufficed. |

The weather this morning is certainly better than yesterday
afternoon but still not all that conducive to exploring and moseying around  So today was just spent getting there rather than touristing Of course the weather did not preclude stopping at HD shops |

The day started out in the Smoky Mountains and the road was often above the cloud line, wet and foggy Later, I passed through the Blue Ridge Mountains again in the clouds Throughout the day, there was rain off and off 5-10 miles at a time And the temperature never got above the low and mid 60's Quite a change from the low 90's just a few days ago |
Harley-Davidson of Asheville is actually
located in
Swannanoa Looking to the south west, it looks like it may clear up However, looking east (the direction I am heading) not so good 
 There is a large open field with the Harley-Davidson bar and shield logo mowed in the grass  |

Next stop was
Blue Ridge Harley-Davidson in
Hickory I had a dickens of a time finding the shop. The motorcycle GPS indicated it about a mile west of the actual location add to this that it is down a dead end street But I did finally locate the store. 
 This is a huge, brand new building. Perhaps the reason of the GPS error |

The little town of
Statesville is the seat of
Iredell County "I" counties are hard to get. California has Inyo and Imperial, but they are each a long haul away While I was here, I could not resist  There was no slot open in the parking lot except handicap so I stopped in the middle of the lot to take my photo A deputy emerged to recommend I not park there but when I explained what I wanted, he was okay with it. |

I had planned on stopping in
Winston-Salem for a photo of the Forsyth County Courthouse But as I passed through, it seemed too complicated to negotiate a large, busy downtown in this weather. I will have to make my anual trip to Fresno County Just south of town, though is Smokin` Harley-Davidson  They have a predilection for skulls on the backs of their t-shirts and I do not like that. Fortunately, they had a few I could support I had a very nice conversation with the woman at the counter That is one of the great joys of my travels, you meet the nicest people The HD dealer is south of town and I had to make a choice to double back and find a place for the night or to continue on |

So I found myself in
Greensboro, NC looking for a hotel I saw the La Quinta - Greensboro Looks too rich for me, but I thought what the heck To my surprise, very moderate rate I asked for a king size bed and the lady gave me a suite   She asked if I wanted to be on the first floor I don't know if she is aware that many bikers prefer the first floor so they can watch their bike out the window or, more likely, she doubted I could make it to a higher floor  She put me in a room on the top (6th) floor |

This is about the time on my trip where I always feel a bit torn I am ready to be back home, but am sad that these travels are almost over Tomorrow will be the last day I will be riding and the bike has been flawless, a real pleasure |
