Day 5 Up the Pacific Coast

Up the Pacific Coast Day 5 Monday September 10, 2018

Today starts in The Dalles, Oregon
And finishes in Roseburg, Oregon

My two grandsons live in The Dalles, Oregon One of them worked the previous night shift so we made arrangements to meet for lunch at 12:00
Check out time at the hotel is 11:00 So I arrived downtown quite early. Gave me a chance to walk around, take pictures, and collect Pokemons
They don't make buildings like this any more At one time, this must have been a very prosperous town
They must like murals
City Hall (left below) is one of those buildings without the city name I guess they feel you should know where you are I always wonder if people who build these pointy churches worry if God might bend over and accidently poke His eye out
So, I finally got on the road just about 1:00 The Columbia Gorge is beautiful, and very long, around 75 miles for me today
A very late start for the miles I wanted to cover So I just high-balled it down the road, seldom stopping Amazing the miles you can achieve on an interstate highway
I stopped in Salem at the Salem Harley-Davidson Having bought in day 3 a heavier, warmer jacket for the cold days on the coast, Now while wearing my light weight jacket storing the bulkier jacket was a problem I had the new jacket in a nylon bag bungied on my back rack but it was flapping pretty hard in the wind This photo shows the floppy bag I was looking for other approaches, Harley makes a rack-pack specifically for what I need. It seems to work out well
I stopped by Willamette Valley H-D in Eugene but they are closed Mondays Note the new bag on back
I stopped at a couple of rest stops along the way to stretch my legs and flex my back (Also, rest stops most often have Pokestops) At one of these stops, across the way was an on-looker
At last I arrived in Roseburg, Oregon Ate supper, edited these pages, and am about to bed down Today was not such a long day in terms of miles particularly on the interstate, but I only had half a normal day having such a late start
