My Second Trek to the Midwest
Day 15, Sunday, July 8, 2007
York, Nebraska to Laramie, Wyoming
Day's Route Overview: Today I left York, Nebraska and heading across toward Colorado. Nebraska is one of those states where you can spend a whole day traveling east to west (or visa versa) and not leave the state. I went part way yesterday and the largest part today. I crossed
the time line into the Mountain Time Zone, and climbed up to the
high plains, at one point reaching 8,640 feet altitude. |

Nebraska is great if you like corn. They sure grow a lot of it there.
The rest stops are very nice. I did not get
much sleep the previous night so I was kind of tired. I lied down on a shaded picnic bench and caught a little catnap. It was a good thing. They do mark their maps well so that I can understand where I am. |
|
As I was heading toward the "nose" of Nebraska,
there was a county limit sign that announced a "K" county. I hadn't gotten a "K" yet. Soon, there was a small town coming up. Paxton, Nebraska. I reasoned, how many towns can there be in a rural county in Nebraska? Certainly there must be some county facility even in this small place. I lucked out and found a Keith County sign to score my "K". |
