2014 Portland Trip Day 6 Saturday July 26

Today we are on the road again
Portland to The Dalles through the Columbia Gorge
We will be stopping to visit folks in Gresham

Portland to The Dalles -- 90 Miles
Throughout our stay in Portland the  Best Western Inn At The Meadows
has been amazingly comfortable.  They gave us an upgraded suite
at a very reasonable price.  The hotel was fully booked, but did not seem crowded
We met with Rhonda and Garron and headed out through the Columbia River Gorge
The views are beautiful

There is a national recreation area at Multnomah Falls.
There is an upper falls, a cascade across which is a 100 year old bridge, and a lower falls

To visit, we stopped in the Multnomah Falls Rest Area I-84 exit 31 on left

We took the hike up to the historic bridge at the falls

We stopped in the town of Hood River for lunch
I had thought it might be fun to  eat at the Double Mountain Brewery
but it proved to be too loud and boisterous
Up the street is the Passport Pub & Cafe which proved adequate
The gorge is also a main route for the railroad.
We passed several trains in close proximity to the highway
and one pair of trains going in opposite directions
Our destination for the day was a town called The Dalles
According to Wikipedia, the name derives from French for sluice
We are staying at
Cousins` Inn - The Dalles 2114 W 6th St

and we had dinner at Cousins' Restaurant & Lounge

I had stopped here once before with my granson Tylor and we had fun
