Today We Reenter California |
Ashland, OR to Weaverville, CA -- 149 miles Although not very long in miles or even in time for that matter, today was very hot and very enervating |
We left the
Best Western Windsor Inn - Ashland and headed down I-5 Soon crossing into California We did not stop, but the northern most rest stop on I-5 is one of my favorite, right on the river |
We buzzed through Yreka and picked up Highway 3 |
We stopped in the town of
Etna. I wanted to visit the
Etna Brewing Co It has very good rating for both the burgers and the beer. It does not open until noon. Too long to wait. We stopped in a corner snack shop for some tasty beverages. |
As we went along, the sky became threatening and then it began
to rain Light, but big drops and enough to wet the road Soon it stopped and then began to get really hot The country-side is beautiful |
The California drought is so severe this year that the Trinity Lake was completely empty. Just a creek running through. I don't know if maybe it was closed for repair to the dam or something, but it was dry |
We finally reached
Weaverville and checked into the
49er Gold Country Inn 718 Main Street. It is family owned and run. I think they live in the attached house. Carol and I had a late lunch at the Nugget Restaurant it was quite good |
Walking through the town I am fascinated by the historic places There is a farmers' market every Wednesday season allowing. We stopped and listened to live music and watched a young boy doing very talented gymnastic moves. Someone here locally has taught him quite well. |
We had dinner at the
La Grange Cafe. The food is really good. We were remarking at how often that is the case in the small towns we have traveled through |
