2014 Portland Trip Day 7 Sunday July 27

This Is Our First Day Heading Back South
The Dales down to Bend

The Dalles to Bend -- 130 Miles
Cousins` Inn - The Dalles was good, but far from great.
It is popular, full, must be a good stopping point for a  lot of people
What do motorcyclists photograph the most?

Each other

and the open road

And what to passengers see the most?

the back of the driver's helmet
I had planned for the first stopping poinnt to be a little town named Tygh Valley There is a Molly B`s Diner
When we rode through, it was such a small town that it did not seem like what we needed so we pressed on
We came upon the little town of Maupin and stopped for an ice cream

This small (422 people) town is dedicated to trout fishing and river rafting and this is the height of its tourist season.
They must do very well, because the several businesses in town bely the small population

Two other motorcyclists were chortling because one went into a bar
named Rainbow Saloon and discovered that it was mainly full of "other types" of people
As we topped a high spot in the road, 3,322 feet, there were some people standing around a monument
and a sign that read something about mountains.  So we stopped.

There is a paved area with brass plaques that point out all the nearby(?) mountain peaks of central Oregon
Mount Hood, Jefferson, Washington, The Three Sisters, Broken Top, ???
The plaques were quite worn and difficult to read, but fun nonetheless

In the far, distant horizons, we could make out the peaks, but the camera has a tough time with the haze
In Madras we stopped at a Black Bear Diner for lunch

Carol and I have had some good meals at the Black Bear Diner in Gilroy and this one was equally as good
Finally, we reached our destination Bend.
We checked into the Quality Inn - Bend so I could park the trailer and then headed over to the
Wildhorse Harley-Davidson I bought some chips, a couple t-shirts and a dealer pin (no surprises here)

For dinner we went to Deschutes Brewery Bend Public House

Deschutes is a famous draft beer and the main brewery is here in Bend.
They also have a micro-brewery in their downtown pub

Carol and I have been shooting half-face menu photos
Garron arranges for us to have a table on the second floor balcony
The food is great and as an extra, we were treated to a beautiful sunset
