The
49er Gold Country Inn in
Weaverville is a reasonable place to stay for the price. Although old, the room was big and everything works with the exception of the sink faucet which has hot and hot settings rather than hot and cold. Also, it backs onto an auto service station which has an air compressor making noise in the early morning (3:00 AM) hours for long periods of time. |

The roads today are among some of the most beautiful I have
ridden. Highway 299 follows the Trinity River as it winds through the mountains 
 The dam across the Trinity is being reworked, a very large project. Vast areas of material being moved by a large number of big machines 
 |
The highway follows all the windings of the Trinity River for
many miles
 
 At one point, there was access to the river from the road 
 We parked the bike and could not resist putting out feet into the cool water 
 |
Willow Creek
is the biggest little city between Weaverville and Arcata We stopped in at the Big Foot Restaurant for a soft drink and temporary relief from the heat. 
 across the road is an Ace Hardware the back of with has a huge mural  |
Highway 299 is a great road. Sometimes very curvey,
sometimes not
 and sometimes it feels like you are on the top of the world

I used to play pool at the E & O Lanes in Blue Lake so we stopped by and took a look 
 It was rather old and dated 40 years ago and has become even more so The main change is that the two nine-foot pool tables we used to play on have been replaced by three seven-foot coin operated tables |

We arrived in
Arcata and checked into the
Best Western Arcata Inn We went into town and explored the Arcata Plaza in town center and all the stores surrounding Then we headed over to the beach. The south end of the Clam Beach were we used to play as teenagers  |
