We start out in King or Prussia |
King of Prussia, PA to Hershey, PA -
131
miles Well the good news is that it was warmer. The bad news is -- wait there is no bad news it was a beautiful day and a wonderful ride. |
Woke up in
King of Prussia, PA and hit the road Beautiful countryside this time of year Notice that the cattle are all free range and grass fed. Never saw feed lots with cattle standing in their own pooh Early spring flowers and bare trees. Later in the year, the woods will be much denser Lots of stone used in many buildings Many flower stands with blossoms for Easter An Amish farmer with his horse team working the fields And, what passes for rush hour in the rural areas of Pennsylvania |
In the town of
Intercourse, PA there is lots to see The children and some adults move around in scooters that have bicycle wheels front and back. There is a very popular area with lots of little shops called the Kitchen Kettle Village A group of what may have been high school kids put on a great song and dance show |
The Amish carriages are everywhere. The horses move about
at a fast trot You can rent a carriage ride in a bus-like wagon. There is even the equivalent of a pickup truck They all had their reflective triangles and most had turn signals A little shop, Stoltzfus Meats, with the most wonderful locally produced goodies. They had sample tables of their meats and cheeses and everything was really great tasting. There were bolognas that tasted more like salami. Eat your heart out Oscar Meyer! Notice the name of the local magistrate, Isaac H. Stoltzfus, Judge. Same building. No nepotism here. Quilt shops are everywhere. |
There is a lot of cottage industry we saw along the way As a contrast from the simple Amish style is this castle like home |
In
Strasburg,
PA there are two sights we stopped to see The National Toy Train Museum has a mostly Lionel train layout that is the most extensive I have ever seen. Aside from the trains, there were a lot of animations in the scenery There was a house that was on fire and periodically a siren would sound and a fire truck would emerge from a firehouse and go to the fire then a fireman would go up a ladder and squirt water Circus performers swung and balanced and paraded |
Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania has way too much to see in the hour
or so we had Carol got me back with what she calls a butt shot More photos of the RR Museum Click Here |
Lititz, PA is a very old town with
buildings dating to the very early 1700's George Washington rested some of his troops here You cannot come to German Pennsylvania without sampling pretzels. Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery |
Spent the night in
Hershey, PA and had a nice dinner at Fenicci's |
