We start out in Norfolk, VA and head north |
Virginia Beach, VA to Salisbury, MD - 132 miles |
Awoke in
Virginia Beach, VA and witnessed a new
experience for each of us: a sunrise over the ocean. Very pretty Hit the road and travelled down the row of hotels. It was below 50 degrees, cold! Then across the flat, swampy areas Wondered what would happen around here if the ocean level rises. |
There is a long bridge with
two tunnels in
the middle crossing the Chessapeake Bay from Virginia main land to Virginia East Shore the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel Crossed over/under and it was one of the highlights of our day I tried to measure with the odometer, but that is difficult in traffic with narrow lanes. I estimated it at over 15 miles start to finish. I looked it up afterward and it is 17.6 miles. You can see the google map, click here. For further information the Wikipedia write-up |
The Virginia eastern shore starts with very shallow sand islands and soon turns into very rural agricultural They grow potatoes, sweet potatoes, hay and raise a few cattle |
We started north on I-13 which would be our route today and
tommorow Our first stop was in a city named Cheriton, VA Stopped in the local post office and I mailed home a bunch of t-shirts home. It is surprising how heavy half a dozen shirts and dealer pins and about 30-36 poker chips can be and how much space they take up in a crowded saddlebag. |
Eastville, VA has the historic
Eastville Courthouse Buildings, dating from the 1730's We took a photo for an "E" county letter. A fellow came out of the building and started to armor up to mount on his Honda Goldwing when he asked if we would like him to take a photo of both of us |
The lady in the post office back in Cheriton recommended the
Exmore Diner
in
Exmore, VA We found it and stopped in, it was pretty good and very inexpensive |
Highway 13 seemed to go on forever.
The fact that it was still under 60 degrees did not help. |
Finally reached the planned destination for the night,
Salisbury, MD Checked into a motel and found a place downtown to eat, the Mojo Cafe They serve some nice craft beers and I enjoyed a sampler of four. |
