2014 DC Trip Day 7 Tuesday April 22

Waking up in Martinsburg, WV, we head down
to Charlottesville, VA
This is the home of Monticello of Thomas Jefferson fame

Martinsburg, WV to Orange, VA - 168 miles
Martinsburg, WV is the seat of Berkeley County   so stopped by Berkeley County Courthouse for a county "B"
Then on to the road.  It was raining.  First time on this trip.  Not real huge drops, but plenty wet.

It quickly became the standard three level visibility challenge:
Water streaming up the windshield, down the back of the windshield, and up the face mask.
In Virginia, the county lines are marked with the county you are entering and also the one you are leaving

California counties never cooperate enough to do something similar
Grove`s Winchester Harley-Davidson is in Winchester,  VA

It is located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain area
Turned off in Harrisonburg about lunch time.  It is a small town, old, looking very blue collar
I spotted a little cafe with a sign in the window "Hippies use side door" Obviously very red neck, yes?

Well, no.  It is the opposite.  A very eclectic, liberal, employee owned place
with locally supplied, good, wholesome food tending toward vegetarian

Stopped by the Rockingham County Administration Center for an "R" county
The rain let up, but the sky was still threatening and it became warmer.

Staunton, VA is pronounced Stan-ton we were told by a local

We were in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley so the dealer name is

Shenandoah Harley-Davidson of Staunton
This is a large dealership with a big deck outside that has a fabulous view

A bunch of fellows were hanging out in front just passing the time
An old timer took the time to try to tell us the best routes to take

Proud of their local landscape, they shared it on the way to the rest rooms
On to Charlottesville, VA where there are two things of note:
The University of Virginia established by Thomas Jefferson
and Monticello Thomas Jefferson's home

Along the way, there were about eight busses all the same
Must have been a lot of people going somewhere

We toured Moticello and it turned out to be terrific
They do not allow photos inside, but the grounds were fair game and beautiful

The back lawn, the dome on the rear, the kitchen, and the parking lot
Moticello closes at 6:00 and we still had a lot of daylight left
so we headed on down the road toward Richmond.
We stopped in
Orange, VA. for the night
