2013 Calgary Trip Day 3 Monday August 5

This is an Extra Page for Today's Adventures
The Tillamook Air Museum, Tillamook, OR
This was an unanticipated stop, did not know it was here
A lucky find along the way

Tillamook was an important air station during the Second World War.
Blimps flown from here patrolled the west coast all the way up to the Canadian border
They have a single blimp handger left that is practically identical to the ones in Sunnyvale, CA

This is one of those places there they have airplanes hanging from the ceiling
and a little gift shop for us tourists who cannot resist

This air station based sub-hunter blimps during WWII
1st photo shows areas of responsibility for the various air bases
2nd shows eight blimps in this hangar

You can see here how the hangar dwarf the airplanes

In a corner, they have some vehicles from the era
Including a Russian motorcycle obviously a rip-off of the German design

Outside the hangar they have a "Flying Buppy"
a huge cargo airplane, military and then converted to commercial
before finally being retired here
The cockpit looks dated with all the analog guages and dials and switches

Left photo is looking into the tail, right looing forward
