| Today, the focus is on Crater Lake. With very limited lodging there, we spent the mid-day and then continue south. |

We headed out very early
Bend (A) The road is good, surrounded by pines There must have been a time when volcanoes in Oregon were everywhere 
 We saw many logging trucks with large loads. To me it seems strange. I am from redwood country and there 3-4 logs fill a truck. |

There are a lot of little towns on this stretch of Hwy-97. At the first, La Pine we stopped so that I could change jackets as the day was beginning to warm 
 |

We passed through the town of Gilchrist, but it is still too early to
stop for a snack. Some of the businesses go to great lengths to attract passers by.

We stopped in a little cafe in Chemult Very western decor, good food, very nice people

|
When you get into
Crater Lake National Park (B), there is a
long way to go before you arrive at the lake This is heavily wooded and then starts to climb The lake is at over 7,000 feet. It is the deepest lake in the United States at over 1,100 feet Being the highest place around, I wonder where the water comes from It all must be from rainfall since there are no big streams flowing in

Leaving the park via the south entrance took us through some
agricultural are, mostly cattle There were a few little towns including historic Fort Klamath This area surely must have had more prosperous times in the past

Before we reached
Klamath Falls (C) we skirted Klamath Lake which is
big and very pretty Unfortunately, this is where the battery in the camera ran out. Not more photos for the day We settled in at the Comfort Inn Klamath Falls |
