Calgary Trip - Day 20

Today's segment of the Calgary trip is between
Klamath Falls, OR and Red Bluff, CA
This segment was planned for a total of 171 miles

Places Visited Along The Way, Photos, and Notes

As we headed south out of Klamath Falls it was raining and we had a little lightning
We suited up appropriately and braved the wet road and the muddy road spray
from the passing trucks.
During the first part, it seemed wise not to expose the camera to the rain
to take pictures, although it might have washed the bug away from the other day
It did not last long, perhaps 20 minutes to half an hour
For the next half hour, the road was still wet from prior rains but we were good

I commented yesterday about the size of the logs on the trucks
I believe these are douglas fir, not really man size trees like I grew up with
but they are not the tooth picks they truck around in Oregon

Our first stop was Weed. We cleaned off the windshield and shed some clothes
as it was getting warmer. Still a very comfortable 80 degrees

At last, with mixed emotions, we are on Interstate-5
Fast to cover long distances, but so boring

We stopped for lunch in Shasta Lake
But first we headed up to the Shasta Dam
For such a large reservoir, the dam is not all that impressive
Of course, I might be comparing it with visiting Hoover dam two years ago

The reservoir is down some 95 feet which is about 44% of capacity
Lets hope for some rain!
After the dam, we stopped in the Old Mill Eatery and had a real good lunch

As we head south on 5, we cross and re-cross the Sacramento River

We were planning on stopping in Red Bluff
but as the day was good, we added a few more miles and ended in Corning (B)
We stopped here last year and we are staying in the same motel - Best Western Plus - Corning

As we approached our destination, again the camera battery gave out
but oh well, we got the best photos of the day anyway
