2013 Calgary Trip Day 6 Thursday August 8

Today's segment of the Calgary trip is between
Victoria and Vancouver, BC
This is a long ferry ride, and then about 80 miles.
Our first excurssion out onto Canadian Highway #1

Places Visited Along The Way, Photos, and Notes
Up early to catch another ferry for the ride over to the main land
and begin our way eastward along the Trans-Canadian Highway.
Victoria (A) is in the southern part of Vancouver Island
The ferry to the mainland is from a relatively closer location Swartz Bay
which is about 20 miles north and west of Victoria
The BC Ferries - Ferry between Victoria and Vancouver
are in part subsidized by the government of British Columbia
It also carries a lot more traffic than the ferry from Port Angeles
Together, this makes for more numerous, larger, posher boats.

I went to make reservations yesterday but found out that a reservation
costs $18 in addition to the ride.  There is a boat leaving every hour
so we decided to try to get there when we could and take the next available
Worst case would have been we would have to wait an hour.

Well, it could not have turned out better.  When we arrived, they
waved us up to the first place in an empty line because we are a motorcycle
The ferry was already loading and almost finished.
They finally waved us on and we got the very last place.
The trailer back was literally out to a yellow line marking the last permissible extent

There are multiple vehicle decks on the ferry each one packed full.  This was our deck

The voyage was very enjoyable
The landing location is about 17 kilometers south of Vancouver at
Tsawwassen

There is too much to see and do in Vancouver (B)
We decided that for the most part we would leave that for a destination point visit in the future

Vancouver is a another city with much water

Of course, I cannot pass up a HD dealership
I programmed the GPS and said take us to the one in Vancouver.
It chose the most gawd-awful route through residential and small business areas
The traffic was literally stopped, go-a-little, and then stop some more
And it was HOT.  We were burning up

I had visited the Trev Deeley Motorcycles about 8 years ago.
It has relocated and grown much larger.

They have a large number of vintage Harleys and other motorcycles all restored to perfection
They charge $10 each to see them.  Maybe another trip

On the way to Abbotsford, a little city of Langley has Barnes Harley-Davidson
I had also been here 8 years ago.  It too relocated and enlarged.
Abbotsford is not in the Canadian Rockies, but you can see the start of them from here

We are staying at the Super 8 Abbotsford
